SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's a bit of a white-knuckle situation in Ball Square two months into bridge closures and detours due to the Green Line Extension project.
Leaving I-93 in North Somerville, drivers can't miss the bright orange signs reading "Ball Square Closed."
But it isn't closed—it's open. The Broadway Bridge is closed, as is the Medford Street Bridge and the Washington Street Bridge, but the businesses there are open, and business owners want people to know about it.
Jason Fucile runs a deli there. He told WBZ NewsRadio's Karyn Regal he wants to see signage that clarifies that the street is open, it's just the bridge that is closed.
"That would help businesses out phenomenally," he said.
Somerville's Director of Economic Development Tom Galligani said the city hears that, and the signs are being updated.
"Most of these signs, they've already switched over, and so there's a sub-sign that says businesses open," he said. "We're in the process right now of just making sure all the signs have seen that transformation."
