SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Changes are coming to Somerville’s PorchFest.

In previous years, the event has drawn large crowds across the city’s streets, as musicians and bands play on porches. In order to try to make the event safer, organizers have announced a number of changes for PorchFest 2025.

“We’ve been working closely with a PorchFest Committee and the Emergency Management Team to restructure the event and application process. These changes will help ensure safety, organization, and the continued vibrancy of PorchFest,” said the Somerville Arts Council when announcing the changes.

Two of the major changes include establishing a volunteer program and emergency management team, as well as changes to the application process. Those who apply are not all guaranteed the chance to perform and must submit their application by April 10.

In addition, several streets are no longer eligible to host performances due to safety concerns. Below are the streets impacted by the changes.

  • Broadway
  • Cedar Street
  • Central Street
  • College Avenue
  • Elm Street
  • Highland Avenue
  • Lowell Street
  • Powderhouse Boulevard
  • School Street
  • Somerville Avenue
  • Summer Street
  • Walnut Street
  • Willow Avenue

PorchFest 2025 is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10.
