SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Somerville is home to a lot of things, including history, art, a giant wooden giraffe with moveable ears, and even an elf village that comes complete with its own Market Basket.

But how can one find all of these things? That's where the Somerville Sights map comes in handy. It's a virtual guide that shows off all of the cool art, history, and other oddities across the city. Eric Haines, a Somerville resident, got the idea to create the map after he started walking more during the pandemic.

"My doctor a few years ago said 'You need to get out more'," Haines told WBZ's Kyle Bray. "Basically I need to get some more exercise every day."

After taking to the streets of Somerville and photographing all the cool stuff he saw, he decided to combine his findings with a map from the Somerville Arts Council and entries from the Atlas Obscura to create the ultimate map of Somerville oddities.

"You'll find things that you walk by that you've walked by 50 or one hundred times and you never noticed just because you're not taking it in," Haines said.

The map has almost 70,000 views so far and has been a hit in local Somerville Facebook groups. You can check out the map here.
