SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A troubled school building in Somerville will be closed all of next year as engineers try to examine if it is structurally sound. The Somerville Winter Hill Inclusion School building will be closed for the entire 2023-2024 school year.
The message from school administrators on Wednesday said the most of the K-8 school would be moving to the Edgerly building in nearby East Somerville, which also houses the district's central administration. Kindergarten and Pre-K Students at the school will be moved to the Capuano School.
District officials said the official reason for the building closure was that structural engineers' final reports will take "several more weeks," and "to be sure we have a formal plan in place for the fall with enough time to plan."
A chunk of concrete fell on a staircase at the school back back in May, leading it to close for the rest of the 2023 school year. No one was in the school at the time.
