SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —  Somerville Youth Soccer received a generous donation from one of the game’s biggest stars.

Christian Pulisic, who plays for Serie A club AC Milan donated 5,000 soccer balls to the youth league over the next few years.

The initiative was part of an initiative with his legacy program and partnership with Puma, which is headquartered in Somerville, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Somerville Youth Soccer president Dominic Lachowicz said that the kids were excited about the opportunity.

“As a face of the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team, we couldn’t ask for a more high-profile endorsement here of our organization, so we want to extend our gratitude and appreciation to Christian,” said Lachowicz.

The team has also received donations from former soccer players Taylor Twellman and Kristine Lilley.

“The kids need to see those role models, and us being able to offer that to our kids I think is a differentiator and a sign of the mission and the vision that we got,” Lachowicz added.

Kids in the program got to celebrate the endorsement with a special celebration at Dick’s House of Sport in Boston, where one even won a signed jersey by Pulisic himself.
