BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A small Italian restaurant in Southie has made it onto yet another list of the best new restaurants in the nation.

Fox & the Knife was opened in early 2019 by Chef Karen Akunowicz, alum of TV show "Top Chef" and winner of the James Beard Award. This week, USA Today has dubbed Akunowicz's first ever restaurant as the 3rd best new eatery in the nation.

It was dishes like their famed tagliatelle with wild boar bolognese that secured one of the top spots for Fox & the Knife.

Chef Akunowicz has 20 years of training under her belt, but she said she still felt nervous opening up her first location. "I was like, 'what if nobody comes, what if nobody likes the food, what if nobody gets it," Akunowicz said. "I felt that way right up until we opened the door, and as soon as we opened the door and there were people in the space I was like oh, I know how to do this."

Fox & the Knife has previously also been named one of the best new restaurants in the U.S. by Eater National and Food & Wine.

Apart from running one of the best dinner spots in the U.S., Akunowicz said she is also planning to compete on "Top Chef: All Stars" which premiers in March.
