BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A restaurant in the South End became the first establishment to be awarded a Michelin star in Boston.

311 Omakase gained the distinction on Tuesday night at the Michelin Guidebook Ceremony in Philadelphia.

'Three 1 One' Executive Chef Wei strives to bring "an exceptional dining experience for guests, infusing traditional Japanese cuisine with his own creative flair to curate an unparalleled fusion of flavors and textures," according to the restaurant's website.

Six area restaurants also received the Bib Gourmand, a "designation given to select restaurants that offer good quality food for a good value," according to a press release from Meet Boston. They include Bar Volpe and Fox & the Knife in Boston. Three Cambridge establishments received the Bib Gourmand: Sumiao Hunan Kitchen, Pagu, and Jahunger. Brookline's Mahaniyom also received this distinction.

The first Michelin Guide was published in 1900, making this a 125 year-long wait for Boston to be awarded a Michelin star.
