South Shore Health Physician Tests Positive For Cornavirus

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A physician at South Shore Health has tested positive for COVID-19, the health system confirmed to WBZ NewsRadio.

South Shore Health says the affected doctor has been in quarantine at their home since the diagnosis and will remain there for 14 days. They did not specify when the doctor was diagnosed.

"Our infection prevention protocols are in place to minimize the risk of potential exposure as much as possible, but the reality is that healthcare professionals here at South Shore and across the nation will likely have some level of exposure as COVID-19 continues to spread," a representative told WBZ NewsRadio in a statement. "In accordance with recommendations from the Mass. Department of Public Health, we notified patients, providers, and employees who may have come into contact with the physician. We continue to work closely with DPH to ensure the appropriate next steps are taken with these individuals and they receive the care and support they need."

"We have enhanced our screening processes and continue to implement stringent safety protocols to protect our community during this challenging time."

South Shore Health has 23 locations across the state, including South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.

On Monday, The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced 33 new cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth, bringing the total in the state to 197.
