BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — There's a construction boom underway on the South Shore.
Among the projects, both Braintree and Weymouth are discussing two major housing construction projects this week, one in each city.
Braintree is planning for a 300-unit apartment building at the South Shore Plaza.
Weymouth is considering a 200-unit mixed use building in Jackson Square.
While some residents said they appreciate the economic benefits new construction brings, others said they are concerned about quality of life issues that include noise pollution and seemingly endless traffic delays.
One Braintree resident said the construction in her community isn't a big deal, and the people responsible for managing the projects seem to do a good job. "They'll figure it out," she said. "They always do."
Meanwhile, Ron lives near Jackson Square, and he said all of the construction projects have created traffic headaches. “It’s been a little bit annoying mostly due to traffic,” he said. He added that he’s just getting over all of the construction detours that were needed for the brand new Chapman Middle School. “At least there’s enough side roads around here that people can be directed.”
