BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new viral social media trend is fast tracking New Year’s resolutions by having some people “lock in” and focus on their own personal growth during the final months of the year.
A trend dubbed “The Great Lock In” has been sweeping many people’s TikTok and Instagram pages challenging users to place attention on their goals and finish out the year strong.
There are no rules to the challenge and goals can revolve around anything from making major steps in one’s health and finances to minor goals such as finishing a book.
The term “lock in” derives from Gen Z social media users who coined the term to mean to focus or zone in on a certain thing.
When asked what people would lock in for, these South Shore residents gave a multitude of answers.
“One thing I want to do is lose weight,” said Theresa from Holbrook. “Slow down with everything and try and catch up on my bills,” she continued.
“I quit drinking, and it’s been a long time,” said David from Braintree.
Others took the social media challenge as something that can better themselves on a deeper level.
“It’s about fixing what’s within,” said one woman. “Making sure you have adequate time with family and friends,” she continued.
“The biggest thing on my mind is doing what I believe is right, regardless of what other people think,” said one man.
The trend is helping people get back on track with broken New Year’s resolutions as the end of the year approaches and new resolutions are made.
However, David from Braintree pointed out that strides in one’s goals should be continued beyond just a social media challenge, “This is one thing, do it and stick with it,” he said.
