BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Boston dining mainstay got into the holiday spirit for St. Patrick’s Day on Monday.
South Street Diner, the 24/7 eatery open since the 1940s, was completely decked out with green decorations and a St. Patrick’s Day-themed special menu to match.
“We have the sliced corn beef and cabbage boiled dinner, we have a piled high corn beef sandwich, which is really popular, corn beef benedict,” manager Shannon McNeil said.
The menu also included a specialty Shamrock Shake and spiked Green Leprechaun Punch for beverages.
McNeil talked about how active the restaurant gets during the Irish holiday.
“Very busy,” she said. “People coming into Boston to go see the parade and then people on their way out after the parade.”

While the day of the parade was graced with nice weather, the rain on St. Patrick’s Day itself did impact customer flow, according to McNeil.
“Well, I think with the rain, it’s kind of unpredictable,” she said. “Yesterday, because it was so nice out, we had a lot more people I think.”
Despite the weather, folks from all over visit South Street Diner as a go-to destination for the holiday, including a duo from Missouri that were celebrating in the most quintessentially Boston way.
“We got here yesterday for the parade," one of the men said. "We’re on our way to see the Dropkick Murphys tonight at their St. Paddy’s Day show.”
