BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — One day after celebrating the Spanish government’s creation of a trade office in Massachusetts, Governor Maura Healey welcomed Spain´s First Deputy Prime Minister, Carlos Cuerpo, to the Massachusetts State House on Wednesday.
It was also announced that Spain has created a venture capital fund to invest in biotech firms from Spain and Massachusetts.
Also at Wednesday's meeting was the Ambassador of Spain to the U.S., Angeles Moreno.
The governor said that Massachusetts' relationship with Spain goes back hundreds of years, and these latest announcements are growing that relationship.
Cuerpo said Massachusetts is "a strategic destination for Spanish investment and innovation."
Spain is a strong trading partner to Massachusetts, with more than $750 million worth of goods exchanged in 2025.
Massachusetts is also home to Spanish businesses that include CMZ Machinery Group, Santander Bank, Mapfre Insurance, Avangrid, and CT Engineering.
