Maine City's Spinning Ice Disk Returns

WESTBROOK, Maine (WBZ NewsRadio) — Last year, a spinning ice disc formation in Westbrook, Maine captivated tourists and the internet.

Now, the disc is back and spinning in the same spot in the middle of the Presumpscot River.

While last year's disc was very circular, this one has jagged edges.

It isn't quite the size of last year's disc, but it is spinning in the same counter-clockwise direction.

Westbrook is loving the attention. Daniel Stevenson, the city's Economic Development Director, shot a video in front of the forming disc last week, encouraging visitors to see the disc and support local business.

"Come on down and be part of something very special, this wonderful phenomenon," he said. "While you're here, come visit our local eateries, our restaurants, and visit our downtown businesses!"

A 24-hour live webcam, set up by Brown University to document last year's disc, has been reactivated. You can view it here.
