TEWKSBURY, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) — Goons and goblins are already making an appearance this summer, thanks to several Spirit Halloween stores opening in Massachusetts.

With less than three months until fright night, some Bay Staters like Shelley say, unlike herself, her daughter is very excited to see that the spooky decor has resurfaced.

"We're gonna go home and get her little cousins and her aunt, because they're people who don't mind it coming this early."

The seasonal retailer is one of the largest Halloween retailers in the nation. With more than 1,500 locations, Spirit Halloween usually starts to open its doors at the end of summer, marking the beginning of Halloween. Christian says we need to slow down and embrace each season.

"Yeah, I wouldn't mind if we may be slowed down a little bit," Christian said. "We are definitely moving too rapidly. You know, Christmas stuff is starting to pop up in Target and stuff like that around September, and like it's just a little much."

What started as a pop-up in 1983 has transformed into a massive interactive experience. Regardless of the negative sentiment from some, Halloween brought in nearly $12 billion between costumes, candy, decorations, and greeting cards, making it one of the biggest commercial holidays in the U.S.
