SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Halloween season has officially kicked off in Salem, Mass.

The town has become one of the most popular destinations in the country for those who love celebrating Halloween. However, spooky season is not universally loved by those who live in the area.

“We are two parts here: people who love it and love to see all of it, and others who can’t wait for it to be over,” said one resident.

Zina said she has no problem with the massive influx of people heading Salem’s way.

“Having lots of people from around the world? I love this. I love the chaotic things here and the happy vibes,” said Zina. “We have a great opportunity [as locals], so we want them to want to [come] back and want to work and live here in the future.”

For every person like Zina, there’s another like Sean who can’t stand it.

“Hate it. It’s just a disaster. It’s a mess, a complete mess,” said Sean. “I essentially just go around it and avoid it all.”

He has some ground rules for the incoming tourists.

“Behave. Don’t act like idiots,” said Sean.

Over one million people are expected to visit Salem throughout the month.
