SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The first black woman to win two Oscar awards for her work as a costume designer for franchises like "Black Panther" hails from the City of Springfield, Massachusetts.
Ruth E. Carter thanked "Black Panther" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" film director Ryan Coogler during her acceptance speech on Sunday night, and mentioned the late star Chadwick Boseman, asking him to watch over her mother who passed away in the past week.
Carter's work as costume designer branches across multiple genres including "Abduction," "Coming 2 America," and "Malcolm X."
