BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A member of Governor Healey's team was pleasantly surprised today after receiving a special honor recognizing her contributions to the Caribbean community.

Joyce Stanton is a native of Barbados and has worked in both Governor Charlie Baker's and Governor Healey's administrations as a special assistant.

The Boston Caribbean American Association held a breakfast on Thursday to recognize the accomplishments of people, including Stanton, who said she had no idea she was one of the recipients. "This was a complete surprise to me. I never expected it to be honest with you," she said. "But I am grateful."

Stanton was recognized for her work promoting her native Barbados, her work in the local community, and the work she does through her church.

She was asked where she gets all the energy she needs to get through her busy days. "It just comes naturally," she laughed.

Governor Healey presented Stanton her award. "I've had the pleasure of working with Joyce for the last number of years," the governor said. "She is such a delight, and I am so proud that Joyce Stanton is the first face the people see when they come to the governor's office. She is incredibly special."
