MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Halloween is in the not-so-distant past, but Starbucks in the Boston area has entered holiday mode. Holiday-themed drinks and the telltale red holiday cups are now on offer.
Big red signs with the latest drinks were up at the Starbucks in Medford's Station Landing, along with a cardboard "Christmas Tree" of gift cards at the counter.
"It's definitely too soon, I think a lot of places follow suit with it though. I went to Home Depot to buy stuff for Halloween and it was already gone, and Christmas was out. And Thanksgiving hasn't come," said Zach, a customer there.
Others felt that November was an acceptable time to start the festivities. "We start celebrating in October anyway, so I think it's perfectly fine," another customer said.
The company says it's the 25th anniversary of the iconic cups being introduced.
Seasonal creep began in the summer this year, with local stores and national chains beginning their lines of autumn drinks before August was out. At the time, some of the stores said they were expanding the season to take advantage of customer enthusiasm over the fall season's new drinks.
