HOPKINTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you're not running, a cold freshly brewed beer at the start line of the Boston Marathon in Hopkinton could be a refreshing beverage that tastes even better knowing some of the proceeds will go towards charity.
The new Hoyt Foundation Marathoner IPA from Start Line Brewing honors the late Dick Hoyt and his son Rick, with portions of the limited edition brew headed to the 26.2 Foundation. Hoyt pushed Rick in a wheelchair at the Boston Marathon for decades.
"They obviously have close ties with all of their racing history to the Marathon, and their story is just amazing— you know the thousands of races they've run. The commitment to racing, their inclusion, we're just really pleased that when we had the idea to recognize them that their answer was immediately 'yes,'" Start Line Brewery Co-Founder Ted Twinney told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe.
The IPA cans also pay homage to the Dick Hoyt Memorial "Yes You Can" Run which takes place in Hopkinton in late May.
"Demand for it has been amazing, we've already sold through about half of it within a week and a half. I suspect we'll only have this for another week or so. People come and seek out these cans every year," Twinney said.
Every marathon Start Line Brewing picks a runner to be the face of their limited edition beer for Marathon Monday.
