BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) — Hassan Amini is the director of a new documentary called “Starting From Zero,” the story of three refugees caught in the chaos of the U.S. military’s recent withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Amini is an award-winning photojournalist who has covered global conflicts for the Associated Press in Liberia, Somalia, and the former Yugoslavia.
He is also a filmmaker making the documentary “Decadence and Downfall: The Shah of Iran’s Ultimate Party” which was nominated for a Grierson Award in 2016.
And now, his latest film is “Starting From Zero” which just premiered at the Independent Film Festival of Boston.
WBZ’s Tina Gao (@TinaGaoOnAir) spoke with Amini about growing up as a child in the Iranian revolution, becoming a refugee, his background and career as a photographer and a war correspondent, and now about his latest documentary project.
