CONCORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — MassDOT is considering replacing the Concord Rotary on Route 2 with a bridge.
State officials said the rotary is one of the most dangerous intersections in the area and a common site for congestion.
David O’Brien of Holden, who frequently takes that road, told WBZ NewsRadio a change to that road is much-needed.
“You have a lot of people that really don’t know how to drive in the rotary,” he said, adding that it’s especially frustrating during rush hours.
According to a 2024 MassDOT Corridor Study, the crash rate at the rotary is higher than any other intersection in the same district. The study recorded 360 crashes that occurred there, with 269 of them happening during off-peak hours.
MassDOT said constructing a bridge would remedy those concerns, as well as ease traffic, improve travel time and increase safety.
“I think it would be great for traffic, congestion [and] everything else,” O’Brien said.
Public feedback is needed before the agency makes a final decision.
