BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A distracted driver rear-ended a Massachusetts State Police cruiser on the Mass Pike early Friday morning, State Police said.

The crash happened around 4:40 a.m. on Route 90 eastbound before the Prudential Tunnel. The trooper was on scene in the cruiser to protect a road crew.

That trooper suffered minor injuries, and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. He was released shortly after 7 a.m.

"The driver who hit him was distracted, we believe by looking at his GPS at the time of the crash," State Police Media Communications Director Dave Procopio said in a statement.

State Police said the driver will be cited.
