BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts State Police are warning about thin ice after a false report of a person falling through ice near the Charles River Wednesday.
“At this time, we’re not confident that the Charles River or any body of water in the Commonwealth has adequately frozen to safely allow for activities like walking, skating, or fishing,” a spokesperson said. “Before venturing out on the ice, we ask members of the public to use good judgement in the same way swimmers should approach water in the summer.”
Authorities got a call that someone had fallen through the ice on the Charles River near the Esplanade, according to Cambridge Fire. But, when they got there, they learned everyone was safe. They are now asking the public to keep off the frozen river.
A reminder, ice should be over four inches after several days of below freezing temperatures to be considered safe to skate.
