State Police Trooper Charged In Chicopee OUI Crash

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Massachusetts State Police Trooper is facing charges in connection with a drunk driving crash that caused serious injuries.

The trooper was driving a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck that struck a 2007 Ford Expedition at 2:38 a.m. on July 21 on Route 291 in Chicopee.

Because the trooper was summonsed to court and not arrested, department policy prevents the trooper's name from being released.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 33-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries, while her passenger, a 34-year-old man, was seriously injuried.

A second off-duty member of the department was a passenger in the trooper's truck. That person was also injured in the crash.

The trooper is charged with operating under the influence of liquor, causing serious bodily injury, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop.

That trooper will be arraigned on September 5.
