BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — One State Representative on Beacon Hill wants his colleagues to "BELIEVE."

State Rep. Smitty Pignatelli has filed an amendment to the House's budget bill inspired by the hit Apple TV show "Ted Lasso". The new amendment, titled the "Ted Lasso Kindness Manifesto", pulls directly from the mantras of the show's lead and title character and calls on the House to "serve as an example for state legislatures across the country by embodying the spirit of the fictional character Ted Lasso."

The amendment calls for members of the State House to:

  • (a) treat others with unwavering compassion, even when disagreements arise
  • (b) strive to the doing the right thing, because it's never the wrong thing
  • (c) channel the 10-second memory of a goldfish when things go array
  • (d) BELIEVE in yourself, in others, and in the kindness of strangers.

State Rep. Pignatelli explained why he added this amendment to the budget on his Twitter.

"As we all know, we are living in tense, polarizing times where hateful words and actions seem to rule the day," State Rep. Pignatelli writes. "Massachusetts prides itself on being a leader on many fronts and by channeling the spirit of Ted Lasso, we can show the rest of the country what living like Ted can accomplish. If we view every challenge as an opportunity and BELIEVE in ourselves and in others, the possibilities are endless. Let's continue to be a beacon of light for the rest of the country through our demonstrated humility and respect."

"Ted Lasso" follows a college football coach who decides to go to England and coach a fictional soccer team playing in the English Premier League called AFC Richmond. Jason Sudeikis stars in the show as Ted Lasso, whose intense positivity and bright personality endear him to the team and fans as the team tries to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
