BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts firefighters took part in a joint training event at Fenway Park on Thursday.

Teams from the five technical rescue divisions of Massachusetts and the Boston Fire Department practiced specialized training in technical rescue operations focused on high-angle rescue scenarios.

Using the Fenway Park press box and the Green Monster, firefighters used ropes to rappel down to a simulated emergency scene where injured victims needed medical care and evacuation. "We're simulating three different types of scenarios," said Daryl Springman, Director of the Western Massachusetts Technical Rescue Team.

"One scenario here is an elevator shaft rescue, we have a rescue from a light tower, and we also have a rescue of a window washer off the side of a building."

The training was all about the firefighters preparing for real-world emergencies while working together as a statewide team.
