CANTON, Mass, (WBZ NewsRadio) – The wait staff at the prestigious Blue Hill Country Club in Canton could be in for some significant back pay after a ruling today from the State Supreme Court.
For every event, the club adds a ten percent gratuity charge for the wait staff and a ten percent service charge that goes to the club.
However, the wait staff sued the club saying they should get that additional ten percent as well. The State Court ruled in their favor.

Attorney Paul Holtzman represents the over 100 servers. He said it is very gratifying to see the court “reaffirm this fundamental public policy protecting wages, service charges and tips of hardworking service employees.”
Holtzman added this ruling could impact other businesses such as country clubs, spas and hotels.
Essentially if an invoice says service fees, the people providing the service should get those fees.
