HYANNIS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Summer days on the picturesque islands off Cape Cod will be here before you know it, and that means that it’s time to start thinking about planning your summer vacation to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard!

The Steamship Authority opened reservations Wednesday for summer ferry trips to Martha’s Vineyard.

Last week, the Steamship Authority website opened initial reservations for trips to Nantucket, which had patrons waiting in the queue for up to two hours to book their getaways.

The Steamship Authority is already behind schedule after persistent problems with the website last month.

However, when reservations on the website opened last week for summer trips to Nantucket, there were approximately 8,000 reservations counted and $4 million in revenue for the ferry service.

The Steamship Authority has been in operation since 1960, according to the website.
