HYANNIS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — You may find yourself having to wait a little longer than usual to plan your summer getaway to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket this year due to some technical problems with the Steamship Authority’s online booking system. This decision was made primarily because the company was concerned that the system would be unable to handle the crush of demand that comes with people trying to book ferry reservations on the first day of the summer booking season. Last season’s opening day for Steamship Authority reservations was slammed with countless online problems, frustrating many travelers. The Headstart program, designed specifically for island residents to book travel, will be open for reservations as planned.
Steamship Authority General Manager Robert B. Davis said in a statement on their website that the “new reservation dates would not be announced until the internal review work is complete.” Davis also said that “the reservation opening days are the start of our customer’s journey with us, and we always strive to make it as smooth a process as possible.”
