QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Grocery shoppers will notice a price drop on several items at Stop and Shop starting Friday, offering some financial relief.
"When I go out here once a month, it just keeps going up, up, up, up," remarked one shopper.
The supermarket chain is slashing prices on over 3,000 items at every store, in nearly every department, on everything from bread and bacon to chicken and cheese. Price cuts are expected to be up to 40% on select items.
The new prices have already gone into effect this week at the superstore in Quincy as a pilot program. Some shoppers say they have noticed a price difference on their favorite items.
"The watermelon was $4.88. I love watermelon," another shopper said.

The price reductions are part of a long-term strategy aimed at improving the overall customer experience. The grocery store has slowly rolled out changes since May 2024. The lower prices will accompany the additional 10,000 items already on sale each week. Customers will be able to see the savings on the yellow tags that highlight the updated prices in contrast to the old ones.
Customers can also sign up for the GO Rewards Loyalty program, which allows shoppers to earn points that can be redeemed for discounts on groceries and gas.
The rollout is expected to be complete by the end of August.
