PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Storm-weary New Englanders have more severe weather to deal with Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Less than 48 hours since the last storm, forecasters are calling for heavy rain and flooding in some areas. Flood watches and warnings are being posted.
Adding to the flooding concerns is snow melt. Many areas received significant snow amounts. Merrimack Valley had spots with a foot and a half of snow. And this rain is expected to melt much of that snow adding to the already saturated ground and rising water table.
That spells potentially big trouble for flood-prone rivers and streams as well as people with basements that tend to flood in heavy rain events. Forecasters say 1-3" of rain is possible in some areas.
Lois from Kingston though is ready. "I love the rain!" she said. "That's why I have a raincoat, beret, and gloves."
Not everyone shares Lois's opinion, especially Travis from Plymouth who remembers the 2021 nor'easter. " That was the worst I've ever lived through... we lost power for five days, and the transformer on our street blew."
Gusty winds are also expected increasing the risk of power outages. Snow in colder areas could be in the precipitation mix.
