STOUGHTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Sheriff Patrick McDermott and the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office are looking for volunteers to lend a hand for the next House to House for Heroes outreach event.
The next one is being held in Stoughton.
It will take place on Sept. 6.
House to House for Heroes is a veterans-focused outreach program where volunteers visit the homes of veterans to hand deliver important information and resources about veterans benefits.
Outreach was recently held in other towns including Walpole.
House to House for Heroes in Stoughton will start at 9:00 a.m. with a ceremony at the VFW Post 1645 located at 14 Seaver Street in Stoughton.
Volunteers will then head out into neighborhoods to meet with veterans.
They will deliver a packet of information that includes details about how to apply for assistance and health benefits from Veterans Affairs, details about housing and employment opportunities, information about newly available state benefits, a letter thanking them for their service, and contacts for many veteran-based agencies.
This program is coordinated in partnership with the Stoughton Veterans’ Service Office.
Residents who are interested in being volunteers can arrive on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at VFW Post 1645, or register in advance:
