Stoughton PD Arrest 15-Year-Old, Issue Second Arrest Warrant For Shooting

STOUGHTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Stoughton Police Department has arrested a 15-year-old and is still searching for a 20-year-old man from Dorchester, both in connection with the shooting of an 18-year-old in the town earlier this month.

Police said the shooting happened on April 1, 2021 on Sumner Street and the victim suffered a non-life threatening injury from a single gunshot wound.

As a result of an investigation, two arrest warrants were issued -- one of which has resulted in the arrest of a 15-year-old boy.

His name has not been released because he is a minor, but he is facing charges of armed assault to rob with a firearm, assault to murder with a firearm, attempted assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and attempted assault and battery with a firearm.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dedham Juvenile Court on Wednesday.

The department is still searching for 20-year-old Joseph Jakai Cruz, also known as "Kai," of 122 Draper St. in Dorchester. A photo of Cruz can be found on the department's social media accounts.

Police said Cruz should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his location is asked to call Stoughton PD at (781)-344-2424.

Upon arrest Cruz will be charged with armed assault to rob with a firearm, assault to murder with a firearm, attempted assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, attempted assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license, and possession of a firearm without an FID card.

The department said they believe the public is not in danger -- and the shooting appears to be a targeted one.
