STOW, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The town of Stow is changing its name to Dunkin’ for one day next week to celebrate the grand opening of its new Dunkin’ store.
The Stow Select Board unanimously passed the measure last week. The ceremonial name change will be on July 24, the day of the store’s grand opening.
“With this new store opening, we wanna tap into that buzz, knowing what Dunkin’ means to Stow,” said Grace Kirkman, Associate Field Marketing Manager at Dunkin’, during the Select Board meeting.
The town has been a “Dunkin’ Desert” since 2022, when the only two Dunkin’ stores closed. The story went viral thanks to WBZ NewsRadio’s own Matt Shearer.
“As soon as we heard that the two stores in Stow consecutively … closed, we said, ‘We need to fix that,’” said Dunkin’ franchisee Megan Pesce at the Select Board meeting.
Shearer himself will be speaking at the grand opening.
“He’s really excited to continue to share this story,” Kirkman said.
News of a new Dunkin’ coming to town was announced last November, and now it’s days away from becoming a reality.
Along with the ceremonial name change, there are plans in the works to change town signs so they read Entering Dunkin’ for the day.
Although the grand opening isn’t until next Thursday, Pesce told the Select Board that she hopes to get doors open before then.
