BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One student was hospitalized and another taken into custody after a stabbing at Brockton Therapeutic Day School Thursday morning, police said.
Brockton Police said officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the school shortly after 9:30 a.m.
A 17-year-old male student was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is alert and responsive at the hospital.
"I visited the young man in the hospital about a half hour after he got there, and he was very alert," Brockton Public Schools Superintendent Michael Thomas said at a presser Thursday afternoon. "He looked up and he said, 'Mr. Thomas, I always wanted to meet you.' So he was alert, he was doing very well."
"We are a family, as the superintendent said, and when anybody is hurt in our family, we come together," said Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan. "It's collaboration, so today, again, thankfully a true tragedy was avoided."
A 16-year-old male student was immediately placed in custody without incident and taken to a local hospital to be evaluated, police said.
According to Brockton Police Detectives and School Police, the stabbing was an isolated incident.
