BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —The first ever meeting of the Student Veterans Council was held at the State House in Boston days before Veterans Day.

This newly created council was established by the Executive Office of Veteran Services (EOVS) to directly support military service members all across Massachusetts who are going to college.

"The Student Veterans Council is about supporting and advocating for our veteran students in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We at the Executive Office of Veteran Services feel it's very important to honorably serve those who served us," said Jon Santiago, Secretary of the EOVS.

The council hopes to make the transition into civilian life easier for these service members, especially those working towards receiving an education.

Army veteran, student and member of the council Chris Shaddock discussed how he hopes to inform fellow student veterans and veterans striving to become students about the government services that are available to them during this transitory period.

"The goal is to help veteran students across the Commonwealth to realize that there are things out there to help you transition from military life to civilian life," said Shaddock.
