SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Project Bread's Summer Eats free meals program is back once again to help feed kids and teens in Massachusetts during the months out of school.

In partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Summer Eats program serves millions of meals to kids and teens across the state. According to Project Bread, nearly 3 million meals were served across 1,500 sites in 2025, and in July of 2025, more than 73,000 kids ate at least one Summer Eats meal.

One of those meal sites this year is at the Salem Public Library, where meals have been handed out from a food truck since June 29.

“It's just a really wonderful way to get kids into the library and to get kids fed,” Simone Lorrain, head of Youth Services at the library, said. “There’s at least one family that I've never seen before in the library, and every single day they get their lunch, they come in, they sit at the table.”

More information regarding Summer Eats and where to find sites can be found here.
