MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —With the summer here, many have turned to a stylish way to beat the heat.
The popular haircut known as the “broccoli cut” has taken the younger demographic by storm, showing full textured hair on top with a fade on the sides. However, barbers have also noticed another trim becoming more popular in the hot sun.
Kids from both the nearby middle and high schools flocked to Front Line of Fresh Barbershop in Medford after class. Barber Essen said buzz cuts are always popular around this time.
“I did a buzz yesterday for a kid that I usually keep the top long, and when he said he wanted a buzz I was like, ‘oh shoot really?’, because I’m so used to doing a little on the top or whatever,” Essen said. “That’s when they start to buzz it, like literally before the summer.”
Many find a buzz cut not only a way to cool off, but also a fresh start to a new look. James, a student from Medford High School, is no stranger to the short cut.
“Actually last summer I got a buzz, at the start of the summer and my friend did as well, he actually kept his,” James said. “It was just kind of a restart because I had the same haircut for so long and I didn’t really like it, so I just wanted to do something completely different and just see how it looks.”
