BOSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A super-powered squad brought cheers and smiles to pediatric patients at Mass General Brigham for Children Wednesday.

Cosplayers dressed as Spider-Man, Thor, Captain Marvel and Batman brought to life many of the popular movie and comic book characters that will be featured at Boston’s Fan Expo, a three-day event in the Seaport from Aug. 8 to 10. This is the third year the hospital has partnered with the event.

The costumed-superheroes were just as excited as patients and staff were to see these characters swoop by hospital rooms.

Mark Robertson, dressed as Thor, was one cosplayer who went full-out – even bringing along his famous “stormbreaker” hammer that is a powerful symbol in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Even still, what thrilled Robertson the most about this visit had nothing to do with the enchanted axe.

“Being the God of Thunder is fun and all, but sometimes you just gotta hang out with the real heroes – the people that work at the hospital,” he said.

Families also felt this impact. One pediatric patient's mother, Techia Tablada, said seeing these superheroes in person lifted her 12-year-old son's spirits.

"It's super awesome for him because he's going through a lot with his treatment," she said.

Anne Pizzano, MGH’s child life manager, said it is important to light up patients’ and hospital staff’s faces in the hospital.

“The impact that it makes, it's sometimes better than medicine,” she said.
