CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — As it turns out, families looking to settle in the Greater Boston Area may be onto something— as a new survey finds Cambridge to be the most family-friendly city in the United States.

The survey from Opendoor, a digital platform for residential home buying, considered real estate options, academic excellence, outdoor community features, and 'small-town' feel as factors for the cities' ranking order.

Opendoor found that the top 15 family-friendly cities in America were:

  1. Cambridge, MA
  2. Cliffside Park, NJ
  3. Arlington, VA
  4. Chandler, AZ
  5. Tracy, CA
  6. North Richland Hills, TX
  7. Denver, CO
  8. Portland, OR
  9. Boulder, CO
  10. Anaheim, CA
  11. Coral Gables, FL
  12. Kent, OH
  13. Ann Arbor, MI
  14. Mission, KS
  15. Avondale Estates, GA

Breaking down the qualities that Opendoor looked into, officials said academic excellence scores came from their real estate trends report, which showed that the most common reason for selling a home is a better school district.

Other clear indicators of a family-friendly city is the great outdoors, as Opendoor cites research from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services displays children that play outside tend to have lower stress levels, stronger immune systems, and are more creative in their play.
