Suspect Arrested After Barricading Himself Inside Westminster Motel

WESTMINSTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A suspect was taken into custody Friday afternoon after police say he barricaded himself inside a motel in Westminster.

According to Massachusetts State Police, several units including the Special Tactical Operations Team and a crisis negotiator responded to the barricaded suspect at the Rodeway Inn on East Main Street at around midday Friday.

MSP said the man was wanted in connection with a shooting that happened earlier Friday in Orange, Mass.

According to Western Mass News, at around 10 a.m. one person was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound after a shooting occurred on Lois Street.

State Police said the male suspect was taken into custody shortly after 1 p.m. after he exited a room at the motel in apparent attempt to enter a motor vehicle.

"The Massachusetts State Police K9 Unit and a Trooper from the MSP Bomb Squad also responded," MSP said. "The Bomb Squad Trooper was prepared to deploy a robot into the room where the suspect was barricaded in order to provide the teams outside the room visual situational awareness of the suspect’s position. The suspect exited the room and was apprehended by the STOP Team prior to the robot’s deployment, however."
