Suspect Arrested For Dorchester Hammer Attack On An Elderly Man

DORCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Saturday afternoon, Boston police arrested 58-year-old Michael Leoney of Dorchester for assaulting an elderly person with a hammer last Sunday.

The attack happened around 1:50 p.m. in the area of Columbia Road and Washington Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found a male victim suffering from a leg injury.

The victim, who is over 65 years old, told police that Leoney got out of his car and started hitting his legs with a construction hammer before leaving the area. He was then taken to a hospital and received treatment. Read the full community report here.

Police were able to arrest Leoney based on information they received through the CrimeStoppers Tip Line. He was also identified through a surveillance photo.

Leoney is being charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon. He will be arraigned in Dorchester District court on Monday. A motive for Leony’s actions has yet to be identified.
