MALDEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two suspects are in custody and a third is still at large after police were led on a car and foot chase through Malden and Everett.

Authorities said it started with a stolen vehicle incident in Wakefield on Wednesday afternoon. One suspect was arrested by Wakefield Police, while the other two took off in the stolen SUV towards Malden.

The ensuing pursuit through Wakefield, Everett, and Malden prompted a lock down at The Madeline English School in Everett.

Witness Ryan Newhall told WBZ NewsRadio's Karyn Regal that he came out of his home near Green Street in Malden when he heard a loud car crash outside.

Newhall said he watched as police screeched around the corner, then saw two men jump out of the SUV and start running. One of them allegedly dropped a pillow case filled with something that Newhall couldn't make out.

"I yelled at one of the detectives that [a suspect] ran that way," Newhall said. "That's when he got one of them down to the ground."

A responding officer followed Newhall's directions, tackling one of the suspects before putting him in handcuffs. Police have since towed away the stolen SUV and are still searching for the third suspect.

Newhall said he has never seen anything like it, and that with a police pursuit and criminals running through the streets, it seemed like the video game Grand Theft Auto.

"I'm in shock and awe," Newhall said.

Officials said the trio is also being investigated for a commercial break-in within the City of Malden.

Everett Police said the lock down on The Madeline English School has since been lifted.

Police said K9 units and State Police Air Wing are still working in the area as a precaution.
