SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police in Swampscott are on high alert after two teenagers suffered what they called "serious adverse effects" when they consumed THC products earlier this month. Officials say the victims in these separate incidents were hospitalized as a direct result.
The Swampscott School Resource Officer is reportedly working in tandem with the SPD to investigate these incidents, while the district's superintendent urges the town's students to exercise caution of using anything that's not prescribed or from an unknown source.
WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe spoke to Swampscott high school students about their peers' hospitalization, some of which said that school communication concerning the situation has been lacking.
"There was an email that was sent out— but only to parents. They never told the rest of us what was going on. This is the second time it's happened. We need to learn more about this stuff, especially when we're talking about people being hospitalized," one student said.

The SPD says officers are committed to ensuring the safety of the town's students, and are working with the Essex County District Attorney's Office to that end. Other students say that when it comes to the victims, compassion should be a priority.
"I feel like there needs to be a lot more empathy, people would feel more comfortable to talk about these things if there was less stigma and more education and more open-mindedness," a student said.
