TAUNTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Taunton Animal Care Facility has crowned Rudy as its new heavyweight champion.

Rudy, a 3-year-old Shepherd Chow mix, has been at the shelter at 821 W Water St. longer than any of the other current animal occupants at 160 days and counting.

"Rudy’s been our heavyweight champion in a ring," facility manager Robert Danielczyk told WBZ NewsRadio Friday. "He’s gone 160 rounds. He came to the shelter as a stray, just roaming the streets of Taunton."

The shelter says Rudy is a highly active dog, though he does not do well with other dogs, cats, or young children.

"He’s just a very good active dog," Danielczyk said, describing him as perfect for "somebody that’s active that’s a runner, somebody that wants a dog to go hiking with them."

For the month of February, Rudy's $375 adoption fee is waived thanks to Jillian's Pooch Paradise, a doggie daycare and boarding facility in Raynham.

Anyone interested in adopting Rudy can find more information here.
