TAUNTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police in Taunton are searching for a suspect in a deadly hit-and-run collision that occurred Wednesday evening.
Police say Jose Ferreira, 85, of Taunton, was apparently struck by a vehicle while crossing the sidewalk on Middleboro Ave. by Center Street.
A neighbor found Ferreira lying in the road around 5:30 p.m. and called police. Ferreira was rushed to Morton Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has released surveillance photos of the vehicle they are looking for, which appears to be a GMC Sierra Extended Cab with a dark colored top half and silver bottom.
It supposedly fled westbound on Middleboro Ave. after the crash. Investigators are asking any witnesses who were in the area for information.
"Even seemingly minor details or observations could be helpful to investigators as they search for the driver," a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Taunton Police Department detective's line at 508-821-1475.
