TAUNTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio)— Taunton Police arrested a suspect Wednesday in connection to the assault of a Norton Hospital employee on Tuesday, according to a press release.
Victoria Disharoon of Taunton was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after allegedly stabbing a Morton Hospital employee while the worker was out on a break. Taunton Police reportedly arrested Disharoon around 4 p.m. Wednesday and seized a small pocket knife they believed was used in the attack.
The victim of the attack, a 44-year-old Taunton woman, told police she was standing outside Morton Hospital on a break when she was approached by a woman later identified as Disharoon, who grabbed her by the ponytail and punched her multiple times in the back.
She then entered the hospital to report the assault to coworkers where it was discovered she had multiple puncture wounds on her neck and shoulders. The victim received treatment at the hospital and was later released. When police arrived, the victim said she did not know the attacker and believed it was random and unprovoked.
Police posted a photo of the suspect on their Facebook page Wednesday morning, who was later identified as Disharoon after an investigation and multiple tips from the public.
"This was great police work by our detectives and I want to thank the many people that sent in tips, leading to an arrest in this case," Taunton Police Chief Edward Walsh said in the statement.
Disharoon was arraigned in Taunton District Court today where she was ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation, according to WBZ TV. She will be held without bail and return to court on Oct. 13.
