REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Teachers across the nation and in Massachusetts convened on Tuesday to protest what they perceive as an assault on public education by the Trump administration.

Bay State educators assembled outside schools before the start of instruction to participate in a “walk-in” demonstration, which included a stop at Rumney Marsh Academy in Revere.

Organizers said the goal was to show solidarity and draw attention to their concerns.

In addition to proposed cuts in federal funding, Massachusetts Teachers Association Vice President Deb McCarthy expressed her concerns regarding the confirmation of Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education.

"She was appointed to dismantle public education, to privatize our public good for profit's sake, and to dismantle equity of services in our public schools for all students," McCarthy said.

Educators said they were also defending their students, including those from immigrant families and LGBTQ communities.
