Team Moderna? PfizerGang? Vaccine Loyalty Waxes Strong Among Gen-Zers

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new trend is growing among the youngest people that can get a COVID shot in the U.S. — vaccine loyalty.

The youngest people who can get a COVID shot in the U.S. are between 16 and 18-years-old, and the question for many isn't whether to get vaccinated, or when, but rather which vaccine they got.

WBZ's Matt Shearer talked to college students in Boston on where their vaccine team loyalties lie.

"I'm a Moderna girl," said Annie from Emerson College. Her friend Bhatia is on the other side. "You have less of a chance of getting those severe side effects, that's what I believe with Pfizer," she said.

They aren't alone. One search on Etsy for a Pfizer T-shirt yields hundreds of results with "Team Pfizer" or "Team Moderna" logos, some with a more-than-passing resemblance to Hogwarts house emblems. A video on the same topic on TikTok amassed 129,000 likes, and a search on Twitter for either #ModernaGang or #PfizerGang yields thousands of results.

All the cheering is in jest, of course - but that doesn't stop some harsh words from either side.

"Shout out to all my Pfizer homies who are out there vaccinated," said Zeke from Northeastern University, "We need to beat out the Moderna guys."
