(Bourne Police Department)

BOURNE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two teenage brothers were seriously injured in a crash on Route 28 north in Bourne Tuesday morning when their truck slid off the icy road into a tree.

The brothers, 14 and 17, are students at the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School. They were both taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Rhode Island after members of the fire department freed them from the wreckage.

In a post on the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School's Facebook page Tuesday afternoon, school officials said both boys were out of surgery and in an intensive care unit.

"They are still listed as in critical condition but are stable," the school wrote. "We continue to have positive thoughts for their full recovery."

The crash is still under investigation.
